Summary So Far:
Can you imagine how it feels knowing you had one year to live? That's how Ben Wolf is wondering. He won't tell anyone, not even his older brother Cody. Ben knows he must do everything and anything live his last year at the fullest. One thing is that, even though he was headed for State in cross country, Ben goes out for football with his brother Cody. Some other plan he wants to accomplish is to go out with his high school sweetheart, Dallas Suzuki. When Dallas asks Ben to homecoming, they become closer than before and Ben realizes that she is concealing from secrets of her own.
Genre:
I sorta know and don't know the genre but I'll give my opinion. I feel like it's a realistic fiction even though someone can't really know how much time they have left to live. You know it could happen by just the author. He writes a lot of realistic fiction because he pretty much writes books relating to his own experience. The only thing is he puts a twist in his books making it a realistic fiction. Like I said before, no one can know how much time they have left to live. Or do they?

Goals For The Quarter
Academic Goal:
This quarter I want to finish with mostly all A's. Try to do my best in all my classes no matter the cost. If I have to sacrifice my time just to do my best work for each and every class. Last quarter I finished with mostly B's. I mean I wasn't mad that I had gotten them but I was disappointed that I knew I could have done better to raise my grade. I know that I have to do better in order to get into the High School I want to get in and for my future. I need to also do good to be able to play in the sports I would want to participate.
Personal Goal:
Wanting to graduate from Heritage. I would be able to do this with the help of my teachers and friends. But most importantly, with the help of my parents. Through what they had helped me throughout the years is what will make my future come true.

The Devil's Arithmetic Finale
Summary:
We start off with a young girl named Hannah. Hannah Stern who lives with her parents and brother. One evening they attend a special dinner in which Hannah does not want to go. When she gets there she has to hear stories from the Holocaust which bore her. As she excuses herself from the dinner table and opens a door, she is taken back in time to 1942 in Poland. She insist that her name is Hannah and she lives in the United States. As she's back in time, she tries to tell the Jews what to do because she knows the story. As she works her ways through the days in the camp, she meets a lot of people she can relate to. They also do some Jews would do like steal, hide, etc. As time passes, Hannah and her friends are separated into two groups. Since Hannah knows the outcome, she tries to change it and as she does, she is taken back to present day. How did everything happen? Read it.
Genre:
The genre of The Devil's Arithmetic is historical-fiction. How can I tell? Well, it takes place back when the Holocaust began and ended. One way you know it was a historical book. Fiction on the other hand you can tell because how can Hannah be transported back into time to Poland in 1942? Weird. Maybe the names the author used were real but we don't know for a fact. And some of the things Hannah does with her friends in the camp, Jews in real life could've done them like steal and hide.

Devil's Arithmetic
Summary:
Plot:
Their is the main character in the book, The Devil's Arithmetic , goes by the name Hannah Dreads. Taking place during the Holocaust, she goes back in time to find out the truth about the Jews. I can't really say much about the climax because in the book we haven't read to that point in the book. But what I can say is she's going back in time to try and figure out the meaning of why Germany is doing this to the Jews. That's when you start to see the rising action.
In my book a girl named Hannah lives with her jewish family. One day she had a special dinner with her whole family. She drank some of the wine and she got drunk. She walked to her room and as she was wandering around the room, she knockout and went in a different world. into a different world back into 1933-1945. Was it a dream? She faded into Germany back when the Holocaust was starting. She just got captured by the Germans and is on her way to what she thinks its a concentration camp. Her and her family were on the verge of getting married but everything changed because they were captured by the Germans.

The Holocaust
I seriously think that many people could've changed and stand up for the Jews. Problem is was that maybe they were frightened of what may of had happened to them if they did. Hitler and the Nazis had control of over mostly the entire continent of Europe. They pretty much had control over everything and everyone. They probably thought on what they would have to go through if they tried to help the Jews. Many others probably didn't know what would happen to the Jews. Though some people did stand up for them. Oskar Schindler was one of them. He used his big factories as a safe zone for some of the Jews. Even though he was a Nazi, he really didn't like the way the Germans treated the Jews. That's when he started those safe zone factories. To be honest, I probably would be a bystander. I wouldn't want to put mine of my family's life in danger. Maybe if I could've started a big organization, then maybe I would try to stand up for the Jews.

Getting Out Of "Period 8"
Summary on the Book:
Paul Baum, since his freshman year, has always told the truth. He learned that no matter what, he had to tell the truth. But after breaking up with his girlfriend Hannah and attending a class with his teacher Mr. Logsdon in which students can express their feelings, he discovers that sometimes the truth can cause problems, and not just minor ones. But after people start telling the truth, Paul, Hannah, and others are being pursued by the police. For what? They don't know. Or do they? The only thing they know is that they can't go to jail. Little do they know that what lies ahead, what they are going to find out, they might already know. But what could it be though?
Note and Notice:
One signpost in which I want to talk about is a Memory Moment. If you DON'T know what a Memory Moment is when you are reading and the author interrupts the action to tell you a memory. After Paul find out what telling the truth can do, he recalls when him and Hannah broke up. This might be important to him because he might still like Hannah. It might also be important because in what he discovered, he can probably get something out of it. But I don't think that the theme will come up this early in the book.

Workers' Rights: My Thoughts
- While I was reading "Fight For Fair Treatment of Workers: Don't Buy Nike", I found that the argument was that workers weren't getting paid enough and were mistreated. They were paid only $1.25 a DAY. That's only 2 meals a day of chicken, beans, and rice. I think that that's unfair because you really can't provide for your family with that kind of paying job. Plus if you're children or even you have medical problems, that's even MORE money. Like seriously, I really learned that Nike can give contracts to LeBron James and Tiger Woods worth millions of dollars, but can't provide for workers. That's really upsetting to me.
After reading "The Sweatshop", I had notice that the argument is that the narrator is struggling to keep herself focus on her job. The narrator considers themselves as a machine working in a factory. They also describe themselves as not having feeling and thoughts. They were both different from one another because in the poem it's someone expressing themselves about workers and in the article it's basic facts about a companies work environment. After reading the articles and then the poem I could connect to both of them.
